“But I’m not a writer”

First of all, yes, you are a writer.

But we understand the sentiment.

In describing the idea behind The Loyalist, it’s one of the first reactions we get. But then we offer a few reframing suggestions, and suddenly, we see eyes open to a world of possibility.

Maybe you’ve never written an article that’s been published in print, but we bet you have written a letter.

We bet you have written emails and proposals and birthday cards to people that you love. We bet you have spoken up at a PTA meeting or board meeting or book club to offer your passionate perspective.

What we’re trying to offer the world with The Loyalist is a lot closer to a love letter or a passionate discourse than it is a feature article in Time Magazine.

We also realize that passionate expression comes in many different forms—especially art, poetry, design, photography, etc. These are ALL welcome submission mediums.

But if there’s something that you’re passionate about sharing, try imagining through one of the following lenses:

  • A mother writing a letter to her children to explain why she chose to homeschool them instead of going the more traditional route.

  • A best man, sitting down to write a toast to friendship, love, and the hope of all that is to come for his life-long friend and his new bride.

  • A family sitting around a table, raising a toast to the 50th anniversary of their parents’ marriage, extolling the legacy the commitment will leave behind.

In each of those above, there is the potential to expose some vulnerabilities. To share not just facts, but transfer love or passion or perspective. To not just exchange a thing or idea, but exchange the meaning behind it.

If you’re willing to let the world share in small glimpses of your vulnerabilities, we might really be able to create something this world needs much more than it needs a “share” button on Facebook.

This is your invitation to dig deep and share what really, truly matters most to you in the world with others.

We hope you will consider submitting.
